Interventions & Experiences
"Nature is one of our greatest teachers"
We have created a wide range of innovative, nature and adventure based education programs for young people of all ages and abilities that are experiencing barriers to mainstream education. Our programs focus on nature exploration, Regenerative land management, "Rewilding', preservation & conservation, creative tasks and adventure activities. All our excluisvley designed programs include functional skills in both Maths & English. We also cover important socio-education subjects such as PSHE and intercultural communications.

Our unique education "cradle to career" pathway incorporates four "Learning Focus Areas" which are the fundamental outcomes of all project delivery and are the bedrock learning outcomes in each scheme of work. These Focus Areas are;

Support Interventions
FOUNDATION

This baseline intervention package for individuals requiring a nurturing and therapeutic approach, to improve self-confidence, resilience, and social wellbeing. At Moor to Life we work with providers collaboratively and create a tailored program that offers projects in nature connectivity, land-based activities, adventure, ecology, gardening, landscaping and forest school.
INTERMEDIATE

This intervention is aimed at supporting individuals with greater special educational and SEMH needs and requires a higher level of support. Individuals may be at risk of exclusion and need support to re-engage in life skills, functional skills and therapeutic focused programs. We work with providers collaboratively and create a tailored program that offers accredited qualifications in nature connectivity, biodiversity, ecology, gardening, landscaping, forest school, and outdoor education. Mathematics, English and PSHE are all imbedded in our programs.
ADVANCED / ADVANCED PLUS

This intervention is for individuals with high complex needs, requiring bespoke interventions and provision from high quality staff, with a high staff ratio. The advanced interventions generally focus on the areas of greater need highlighted in the student's EHCP. A broader range of qualifications can be delivered, whilst still maintaining the prime focus on the student’s SEMH needs.
"Moor" Experiences
Moor To Sea
Our Moor To Sea program offers our students the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastline that we have on our doorstep. The Kitley Estate is situated at the mouth of the Yealm Estuary providing the perfect resource to teach our students about marine biology, ecology and conservation. We have qualified marine biologists amongst our staff who have developed an engaging, informative and adventurous program that is accessible to all students.
Moor To Explore
As part of our Adventure program we utilize both land and sea to explore new places, learn about new environments and discover more about what Devon has to offer. With the famous Dartmoor on our doorstep, our experienced staff have created a number of adventure based programs that are educational and promote positive health and wellbeing.
Moor To Grow
Our Moor To Grow program offers our students the opportunity to learn about horticulture, fruit and vegetable growing and sustainable food production. We are incredibly fortunate to have two beautiful Edwardian Walled Gardens on The Kitley Estate. These provide an idyllic setting to create an unrivalled school kitchen/gardening program. We aim to restore the gardens back to their former glory and create a fully organic food growing project for our own use and to offer to the local community.
Moor Sustainable
In all our programs we champion sustainability and "Greener" methods of operation. As examples;
To heat our facilities we use wood that has been processed from timber on the estate. Our electricity is provided by solar energy powering ECOFLOW power banks. We encourage multi use bottles and food containers to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Food waste is disposed of in our wormery to create organic compost, The hedging boundaries of our facilities are weaved and formed by utilising cut laurel.
Waste to
Waves
We have established a unique R&D collaboration with a Devon based company - DCW Polymers who specialise in creating eco friendly, sustainable outdoor products. Through organised coastal clear-up events, we aim to create safe and sustainable water-sports equipment ( SUP’s, Kayaks). This exciting collaboration opportunity would be a very engaging and ecologiccaly beneficial project for the wider community and the environment.
